Postcards for the Pandemic started as a reaction to the ongoing "posting" on social media during the first wave of the pandemic in Europe. Online communication on platforms like Facebook became intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic and they followed a particular pattern. From public admonitions about wearing masks to pictures of sourdough, and eventually public proclamations of depression, contact during the pandemic seemed to be ever more dependent on the strangely personal announcements so common to social media.

But announcements were never intended for personal communication. They are not meant for a conversation partner, but for an audience. The audience isn't invited to engage, it is invited to react. Reciprocity is substituted by reaction.

In order to counteract this tendency of "posting," I invited people to actually send me a postcard. In return, I offered to send them a custom-made drawing. The project is on-going. If you would like to participate please email me to exchange addresses or send me a card with a return address here:

I am gradually posting the archive of cards online, including my own. The first page of the archive can be found here.

The project is not only about communication and contact, but about art's value and audience. For whom do we make work and what value does it have outside the market? Below are the invitations I posted on Facebook, Instagram and on my website. They are written in the three languages I speak: English, German and Polish.

I would like to personally invite you to a brief correspondence during this period of isolation that the pandemic has forced on us. Rather than "posting" online to a public of "followers," the idea is to breathe new life into the Mail-Art movement and directly communicate with each other. All you need is a postcard-sized piece of paper, on which you can make a drawing, paste a photo, write a poem, a piece of advice or a favorite recipe. Your contribution need not be strictly a postcard. The exchange is about sharing something that has become important to you, or has stayed especially important for you, during the pandemic. Because I myself am an artist, I will send you a 12 x 17 cm drawing in return. In this way we will exchange a small portion of our lives with one another.

The postcards will be eventually part of an online archive and perhaps, once the pandemic is over, a book. For this reason I ask you to write your name, the date, your age and your city or town on the back side.

Ich lade Sie zu einer Korrespondenz während dieser Isolation, die uns die Pandemie aufgezwungen hat, ein. Das Ziel ist es, nicht online an ein unbestimmtes Publikum zu "posten," sondern die Postkunst wiederzubeleben und persönlich mit einander in Kontakt zu treten. Alles, was Sie brauchen, ist ein postkartengroßes Blatt Papier, auf dem Sie eine Zeichnung anfertigen, ein Foto kleben, ein Gedicht, einen Ratschlag oder Ihr Lieblingsfamilienrezept schreiben. Ihr Beitrag muss weder Kunst noch Postkarte im engeren Sinn sein. Die Karte sollte vielmehr etwas enthalten oder zeigen, das in dieser Zeit für Sie wichtig geworden ist oder besonders wichtig bleibt. Da ich selbst Künstlerin bin, sende ich Ihnen im Gegenzug eine originale Zeichnung auf einer Karte im Format 12 x 17 cm zu.

Die Postkarten werden schließlich ein Teil eines Online-Archivs und vielleicht auch als Buch veröffentlicht werden. Aus diesem Grund bitte ich Sie darum, Ihr Name, Alter, das Datum und Ihren Standort auf der Rückseite zu schreiben.

Zapraszam do wymiany korespondencji podczas izolacji do której zmusiła nas pandemia. Wystarczy pocztówka z wierszem, rysunkiem, bądź ulubionym przepisem z kuchni rodzinnej. Kartka nie musi być sztuką, lecz gestem dzielenia się tym, co w okresie pandemii okazało się dla Was niezwykle ważne.

Kartki będą dostępne w archiwum na sieci, dlatego proszę o umieszczenie w podpisie imię, datę, wiek i miasto na odwrocie pocztówki.

Czekam na wasze pomysły, a w zamian oferuję rysunek w formie kartki wielkości 12 x 17 cm. Całe przedsięwzięcie ma na celu powrót do tradycyjnej poczty która pozostawia trwały ślad.

W między czasie proszę o zgłoszenia do udziału w projekcie przez emaila do ustalenia szczegółów i formalności.
