Untitled (For Lutz 1978/2024)(2024)
The public art project consists of six sculptural interventions into the middle and high school in the Allee der Kosmonauten in Berlin. The forms are derived from mosaics by Lutz Rudolph that were demolished along with the former vocational school for foreign trade to make way for the new building. I took his forms, "peeled" them off their surfaces, hung and wove them through the interior of the new school. They reference the past while also looking toward the future.
In this, as well as in a number of my other projects, I ask myself how history can be or is remembered while being used as a building block for something new.
