-- WOHNZIMMER / LIVING ROOM As the last tenant in a, save for my own apartment, fully gutted house, I organized an exhibition as a last goodbye to the building and as a protest against the housing politics of Berlin. My partner and I had been contesting our eviction for two years, though we knew the fight would be a losing battle. Before we had to leave, I invited artists who had lived in the house before, as well as artists dealing with space, architecture, or housing, to make new installations for the show. To complete the exhibition we received funding from the City of Berlin. My contribution was a 1:1 drawing of the living room onto banner material, that was then cut out and hung back into the room itself. Every window, corner, moulding was copied and rehung as if the lines of the room peeled off the walls and proceeded to haunt the premises. I chose the living room not only because that is where I often worked, but because of the word "living" and its relation the afterlife of this space. -- |
