-- EVERYTHING THAT'S LOST (2018) Everything That's Lost (2018) is an absurd archive project whose source is a coffee-table book on the Arctic. The book was gifted to me and I decided to cut out all of the images of snow which resulted in over 2000 abstract shapes and a cut-up book on the north bereft of its most defining feature—snow. The archive of shapes was then scanned, vectorized and laser cut from thick white paper. This was later bound into a new monumental book, that when closed, is a white cube. Arranged from smallest to largest, the changing shapes are, for me, an archive of loss. In the exhibition, a custom table was built to support the book which, ironically, is estimated to weigh about 125kg. During the exhibition 81 of the book's pages were flipped as part of a ceremonial page turning. By the last day, viewers will be able to see the end of the book. The performance is timed with the duration of the show, and only gallery staff are permitted to flip the pages. Most of the book, however, is what you see on the bottom right image, a tiny, barely visible hole. By the end it enlarges very quickly and creates complex "drawings" from the overlapping cuts. -- |
