Canadian Public Art Competition, Winnipeg 2016, Shortlist Description: The proposal continues the approach from 'Reorganisation of One Hedge' by using a spectrum of leaves and combining it with geometry in so as to compose a kind of absurd ordering of parts. This particular iteration consists of a structural relief built atop a wall in the library, then wallpapered in adhesive vinyl. This overlaying "skin" will not align with the underlying structure, but impose another order onto the 3-dimensional one beneath it. This will result in a kind of spatial tension. The photographs will be digital collages of leaves from one bush rearranged to form a gradient. Because of the sculptural elements and their relation to the decal, the composition will intentionally change according to the position of the viewer—every perspective is its own composition rather than a different view of one image. It will also be a representative extension of the outdoors, as if a hedge were made into a library wall. |
