-- OTHER DRAWINGS Here are a variety of works that I have clumped together, mostly on account of their size, but also because they do not fit any where else. Some of these works are over-sized drawings that might belong to another series, but most often they are multi-year drawings that happen in the background of my daily practice. They are testing grounds, actualizations of discoveries, as well as blueprints for new works. They start with a technique (splashing on paint, a certain gesture, a series of line...) and then, often despite myself, I proceed to push them into a state of failure, at which point I may put them aside before I attempt to recover them. This is a process that often takes years, though I would prefer that not to be the case. What the drawings all have in common is a tension between the spontaneous gesture and the illustrative line. I do not believe in authenticity, so I attempt to capture every gesture within a line, so that new gestures may form between them. -- |
