These drawings are loosely based on classical and mannerist sculpture. I see a sculpture that I find strange, anachronistic, incomprehensible, whatever, and I loosely mimic it's gesture on paper. I then lay the drawing aside and only return to it, once the lines have become foreign to me. I draw into it, and keep repeating the process until I feel it is finished. This sampling has been heavily edited since I had over one hundred at first. The drawings that did not make the cut were literally cut up and rearranged into collages or else worked further into until a new series formed. I never throw anything away. Each failure is an opportunity for a new interpretation.
